                   You can specify some default colors by putting the following lines in your '~/.emacs' file:

(set-background-color "black")
(set-foreground-color "white")
(set-face-foreground 'modeline "black")
(set-face-background 'modeline "forestgreen")
(set-face-background 'highlight "purple")
(set-face-background 'region "orangered")
(set-cursor-color "green")
(setq tab-width 1)

The options speak (hopefully) for themselves.

Switch to perl mode

To put emacs in perl mode type the following sequence:
